CERT – Community Emergency Response Team

Mill Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is part of FEMA’s National CERT Program. Mill Valley CERT is an organization of trained volunteers who are mobilized by the Mill Valley Fire Department if needed to supplement professional first responders in a major disaster.   CERT members are trained to size up an emergency  situation, do light search and rescue, locate and turn off utilities, if needed, extinguish small fires, triage and treat injuries, gather resources, and provide comfort. 

Typically, CERT volunteers first ensure the safety of their family and neighbors, then they proceed to the designated CERT staging area for assignments. CERT teams will be embedded in the NRG that they live in although it’s possible they may  asked to help in an adjacent NRG if the need is greater there.  In Mill Valley, CERT teams are only able to self-activate in a significant earthquake; otherwise, they must be deployed by Mill Valley Fire Department.

Sign Up for CERT Training

WE always need new CERT members. Marin County CERT offers ten classes each year and you are welcome to attend a class anywhere in Marin County.  The cost is $50 and includes a backpack, goggles, helmet and an identification card upon completion. Contact us for scholarship information or if you need assistance.

Upcoming CERT Classes
