Summit (Middle Ridge) NRG
Summit NRG Steering Committee
The Summit (Middle Ridge) neighborhood is situated on the central ridge of Mt. Tamalpais, which climbs from downtown Mill Valley to the East Peak of the mountain. Summit Avenue is the main thoroughfare up the ridge, running parallel to Tamalpais Avenue for nearly half of its length. Summit Avenue becomes Fern Canyon Road, which follows the path of the Old Railroad Grade until the pavement ends at a gated dirt road that continues up the mountain through the Marin Municipal Water District watershed. Residents of this lovely wooded neighborhood enjoy spectacular views over the canyons of Mill Valley and the San Francisco Bay area, along with many trails and a network of fire roads that afford easy access to the watershed and further up the mountain, to Tamalpais State Park. A network of Steps, Lanes, and Paths throughout the residential area are an essential part of Emergency Preparedness in this rugged environment, allowing swift escape on foot from the steep slopes and narrow roadways in case of fire, earthquake or other emergency. They also provide daily convenience for residents and visitors, with downtown shopping, schools, public transportation and the Mill Valley Library within easy reach.
